Mr. Kamesan’s New Home

Among the various household items donated to the 2020 Rummage Sale, a very life-like item emerged which surprised the BWA volunteers sorting the items for sale to Savers. It was a precious turtle, Mr. Kamesan. It would have been “oshii” (wasteful) if Mr. Kamesan was taken to Saver’s! It thus became my mission to get him a new home.

I contacted the Aquarium and found out that due to the pandemic the Aquarium was closed for tours. However, Chessa Caparros, a program manager for the Education Department returned my call via email. After emailing back and forth she was delighted to accept Mr. Kamesan for the Aquarium.

On May 21st, I was able donate to the Waikiki Aquariam a very life like “Honu” to the Aquarium’s education program. Mr. Kamesan will be displayed at his new home, the Waikiki Aquarium either at the gift shop or as part of the Education Department.

Handing Mr. Kamesan over. Charlene Kihara and Chessa Caparros, Waikiki Aquariam Education Program Manager.
